Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Dean & Director of Student Leadership and Engagement, the Program Coordinator will play an important role in advising undergraduate student organizations and assist in the daily management of student-initiated events at Princeton University. This position will work closely with a number of student-run organizations and committees, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), and the four Class Governments. In addition, the Program Coordinator will collaborate regularly with a small team of colleagues in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students to enhance and sustain events and programs that enrich the learning and extracurricular experiences of students. This is a two-year term position with the possibility of a third year.

Responsibilities

  1. Meets regularly with student group leaders to discuss events, logistics, initiatives, and overall strategy for campus programming and competitions. Reviews and approves student sponsored events in the online registration system, and student organization off-campus travel. Serves as a bridge between student leaders and key university offices to support events and compliance with University policy, and is involved in University policy and governance related to student organizations.
  2. Serves as the primary administrator and approver for the university’s student organization event registration system, CLEVER. Assists the Assistant Dean in convening campus partners working with the CLEVER system.
  3. Responsible for the review and approval of student organization financial activity, overseeing 500 accounts and 10,000+ transactions per year. Participates in weekly financial meeting with the Deputy Dean and Assistant Dean.
  4. Advises student organizations and committees, including, the four class governments, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), the Student Group Accountability Board (SGAB), and the USG Projects Board. Specifically, the Program Coordinator is responsible for managing logistics supporting the SGAB and Projects Board. Also responsible for advising senior class commencement committees, such as the Class Jacket Committee, Step Sing Committee, and the Tiger Stay Committee.
  5. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean, works with the Student Group Recognition Committee to onboard newly-recognized student organizations and ensure groups have a complete understanding of policies and procedures. In collaboration with the Financial Coordinator, plans training programs for all student organization presidents and treasurers.
  6. Collaborates with colleagues and other university offices (Public Safety, Facilities, Grounds, Risk Management, etc.) to sponsor and manage a variety of events and programs. One primary program is the Halftime Retreat for sophomores, which takes place during Wintersession break and includes approximately 50 sophomores. Large-scale event support includes the USG Lawnparties concerts, the Orange and Black Ball, Bonfire Celebration, Late Night Skate Nights at Baker Rink, Dean's Date celebrations, Orientation activities, and Commencement activities. Other events sponsored and supported consist of a town-gown holiday event in Palmer Square, and various workshops, master classes, and seminars planned for student leaders and organizations. Helps manage the Spirit of Princeton prize and the Santos-DuMont prize.
  7. Develops outreach efforts, programs, and online tools to strengthen the abilities of undergraduate student leaders.
  8. Participates in the development of policies and programs affecting undergraduates.
  9. Shares responsibilities for University assignments with colleagues and serves on several University-wide committees and working groups as a representative of student organizations. Partners closely with the Deputy Dean and Assistant Dean on other projects, initiatives, and programs that support the student experience.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with and understanding of activities and programs sponsored by undergraduate student organizations
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize a demanding schedule and a diverse portfolio of responsibilities
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with students, faculty members, and administrators
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of current trends in undergraduate cocurricular and social life
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills
  • Availability to work a number of nights and weekends during the academic year in order to ensure proper oversight of programs and events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or 1-3 years of work experience
  • Budgetary management
  • Demonstrated creative ability in program development
  • Experience with establishing new programs and/or initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability with web-based technology and software, such as Concur, Google Drive, and Canva
  • Demonstrated creative ability in program development

  • Creativity in advising student organizations on the planning and implementation of programs.
  • Familiarity with highly selective and academically rigorous institutions
