Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine, Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and the Center for Global Health in the Biological Sciences Division, are searching for a Research Assistant Professor, whose primary activity will be academic research in association with a faculty member or team. The appointee will best contribute to a research project on the intersection of household air pollution, chronic non-communicable diseases, and maternal and child health among vulnerable populations. The appointee will join an outstanding group of researchers who apply state-of-the-art analytic methods to a broad range of research related to exposure related medical problems (asthma, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obstructive lung diseases, adverse pregnancy outcomes and childhood cognitive development challenges), including epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematical modeling, exposure monitoring, GIS monitoring, exposure mapping and laboratory science. The appointee will complement these existing areas of strength, and work across several trans-disciplinary and collaborative units in Chicago and Nigeria towards reducing environmental exposure and preventing premature mortality related to ambient and household air pollution. These include the School of Social Services Administration (SSA), Harris School of Policy, Booth School of Business, NORC, Department of Sociology and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). The appointee will work globally, specifically in Nigeria, and in low-resource communities in Chicago and beyond.  We especially welcome applicants with expertise and experience in study design and primary data collection, environmental monitoring, laboratory science skills, GIS monitoring and exposure mapping.

Applicants must have 1) a doctoral degree or equivalent in the environmental sciences, epidemiology,  biostatistics, public health, or related disciplines, and 2) completed postdoctoral training prior to the start of employment.

To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/78638. Applicants must upload: CV  including bibliography, cover letter. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
