Job Purpose
A Psychology Technician has the following core areas of responsibility:
- To support laboratory- based and non-laboratory based experimental work carried out by students and staff
- To manage, update and instruct on Psychology specialist equipment
Job Background
BPP Psychology Department sits within the BPP School of Health. The School of Health combines the academic excellence of a university with the real-life focus of a professional environment. At the Psychology Department we offer the BPS accredited MSc Psychology Conversion Programmes (campus-based and distance learning) since 2016 as well as deliver Professional Development courses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting student dissertations
- Supporting staff research
- Resolving problems in relation to research and teaching technologies
- Maintaining/Updating research technologies
- Providing oversight of the health and safety risk assessment in labs
- Initiating the development and use of new research and teaching technologies
- Setting up experimental technology workshops

Candidate Criteria
Essential
- BSc Hons Psychology in psychology or a related discipline
- Experience in working as a Psychology technician in FE or HE context
- Experience in working with statistical analysis packages such as SPSS
- Experience in working with experimental design packages such as E-Prime
- Experience in working with Psychophysiological response measures such as eye trackers and galvanic skin response units
- Experience in working with psychometric measures for research purposes
- Experience in working with online data collection tools such as Gorilla and Qualtrics
- Ability to analyse data using SPSS
- Ability to prepare and deliver a training on a technical subject
- High level skills in Microsoft office 365 (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
- Ability to solve problems and take initiative
- Ability to effectively plan, organise and prioritise workload
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to work well in a team and be collaborative
- Self-motivated
- Proactive
Desirable
- Postgraduate degree in Psychology or a related discipline
- Experience in using Adobe Connect
- Experience in working with Virtual Learning Environments (e.g. Totara, Moodle)
- Experience in delivering technical training
