LMU Munich’s Department of Geography plays the leading role in Germany in research and teaching in the field of Geography of Sustainability. In order to complement its scientific strengths in the fields of global change research, land-use dynamics, climate research, remote sensing, human-environment relations, and economic geography the department seeks an excellent scientific personality in the field of physical geography and nexus research. The specific profile of the W3 professorship is to investigate natural processes and their dynamics in the water-land-ecosystem nexus. Topics include research on the impacts of climate and land-use change on water and food security and the functionality of ecosystems and their services across spatial and temporal scales. Methodological foci can be in the areas of environmental monitoring and/or the integrated analysis and simulation of the water-food-ecosystems nexus from the perspective of physical geography.

The successful candidate is required to participate in teaching physical geography at all levels within our bachelor and master programs as well in our teacher education programs.

Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program.
