TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II, Mechanical Engineering, to contribute to the MCube Lab’s activities related to creating and testing research experimental setups for projects on high-resolution tactile-sensing, gripper design, and modeling of frictional contact dynamics, among other topics. Will quantify design requirements and assess feasibility of proposed solutions and synthesize results into new designs; generate, make, and validate new designs; troubleshoot electromechanical systems that include power systems, pumps, controllers, actuators, etc.; help MCube Lab researchers use equipment correctly and safely; perform independent research; analyze, synthesize, interpret, and document experimental results and present research findings at laboratory meetings; participate in the procurement of additional funding for the maintenance of research; and prepare and/or collaborate on articles for submission to scientific journals and publications in regard to said research.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or related field; at least four years’ specialized experience with qualitative data analysis and research methods (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate) and at least one year of industry experience; experience working with outside engineering vendors; ability to work independently; excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, attention to detail; and the ability to use and maintain common machine shop tools and machines and to lift weights of least 20 lbs.
