RESEARCH SCIENTIST, TSAI LAB, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory (PILM), to conduct and oversee research activities in the laboratory of Professor Li-Huei Tsai, the director of PILM. The lab conducts research investigating the molecular-, circuit-, and systems-level basis of neurological disorders that impact learning and memory. Model systems include transgenic mice, human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models, and human brain samples. Multidisciplinary approaches are employed, including in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and neurocircuitry mapping, neurobehavioral testing, biochemistry and immunohistochemistry, large scale imaging, epigenomic and transcriptomic approaches, and bioinformatics analysis of big data. Will collaborate on the design and execution of experiments. Responsibilities include supervising the execution of research strategy, managing internal and external scientific collaborations, and integrating efforts across projects; helping lead collaborations with groups including MIT CSAIL, the Broad Institute, and the Neurodegeneration Consortium; serving as hiring manager and general supervisor of technical staff; and promoting a culture of team-work and scientific excellence. May serve as co-investigator on grants and aid in fund-raising activities.
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in neurobiology/neuroscience with a systems and circuits background; at least five years’ experience in a research and academic environment; ability to analyze and communicate scientific information across different topic areas at levels appropriate for the audience; proven writing skills, with attention to detail, both in a narrative style for research proposals, reports, and manuscripts and for presentations; flexibility; and strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Must be able to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines; keep teams, projects, and deliverables on track; work independently and collaboratively; and promote collaboration/cooperation among teams.
PREFERRED: experience with in vivo electrophysiology and/or calcium imaging. Job #18785
