About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our successful program within the School of Physics, here at the University of Sydney. The research group currently engages in experimental research to explore novel effects associated with stimulated Brillouin scattering, particularly optical telecommunication and carrier recovery. The successful candidate will contribute to the research and development of the project, collaborating with other universities and with industry experts and end-users.

This is an opportunity to conduct research in a collaborative research team. You will be based at the School of Physics, working closely with and mentored by Professor Benjamin Eggleton. The role will require carrying out scientific research and preparing and presenting scientific results in papers and conferences, co-supervising undergraduate and graduate research students, assisting in the recruitment of research students and continuously working towards attracting new funding. Additionally, you will help to coordinate the research of different researchers.

About you

  • a BSc (Honours) or equivalent and PhD in Physics (or a closely-related discipline)
  • experience in experimental photonics, nonlinear optics and opto-electronics
  • demonstrated knowledge in coherent telecom systems
  • an understanding of the theory and formalism of nonlinear optics, desirably Brillouin scattering and multi-wave nonlinear interactions
  • demonstrated experience in microwave photonics and link performances characterization
  • demonstrated experience with numerical simulation of nonlinear optical-acoustic interaction and nonlinear optical pulse propagation
  • extensive experience in experiment automation and equipment interfacing
  • excellent interpersonal skills suited to working in a small but extremely enthusiastic research group
  • proven commitment to producing high-quality work
  • demonstrated excellence in research through published research in refereed journals
  • demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication in scientific English.
