Job description

King's College London
Chair and Director of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law
The Dickson Poon School of Law

The Dickson Poon School of Law is recognised globally as one of the best law schools in the world; it was rated number one in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). The School has moved steadily upward in global and national league tables and is now ranked 15th in the world and 4th in the UK in the QS World Rankings this year. King's College London has been in service to society since its foundation and the School's research and teaching addresses some of the most pressing questions of our time, with many members advising governments, serving on commissions and public bodies and helping to shape policy and practice nationally and internationally.

Following a gift from Dato' Seok K Yeoh FKC and his family, the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy & Law was founded in 2014 as a focal point for interdisciplinary research in law from the perspective of both philosophy and politics, engaging in rigorous philosophical inquiry that addresses pressing issues of general public concern. Although based in The Dickson Poon School of Law, the Centre has close links with the departments of Philosophy and Political Economy. The work of the Centre underpins the teaching of King's Politics, Philosophy & Law (PPL) LLB degree, a unique interdisciplinary degree course spanning the work of three outstanding faculties, as well as hosting the well-known KJuris workshops.

The School seeks to recruit an outstanding Chair within the School of Law and Director of the Centre. The appointee will exercise high-level leadership as Centre Director and build upon its position as a globally recognised centre of research excellence. The successful candidate will be a distinguished scholar with an international profile in the fields inquiring into the philosophical foundations of law and of politics. The post holder is expected to develop the activities of the Centre, notably in building collaborative global networks, running successful event series, supporting the delivery of high performing programmes, promoting interdisciplinarity and research excellence, and ensuring student satisfaction.
