The department
Building on the success of our existing distance learning provision, we are creating a dedicated distance learning unit that will play a leadership role in leading and supporting the expansion of our provision. This is one of nine posts that we are presently advertising in this recruitment round.
The role
The Academic Manager of Distance Learning is responsible for providing leadership in relation to the design, development and delivery of academic distance learning programmes. You will have line management responsibilities in the central Distance Learning Unit.
You will be responsible for providing academic leadership to colleagues in the central distance learning team, as well as to Faculty and Directorate colleagues, through the review of academic programmes and liaising with colleagues dealing with data analytics and market insight. As an academic manager of Distance Learning you will ensure that the University makes use of best practice in relation to operational procedures, with reference to quality assurance, enhancement and pedagogy. You will liaise and network with colleagues across the University and externally with appropriate bodies and institutions, as required.
The person
You will have experience of leading the delivery of academic programmes within a digital or distance learning environment in a Higher Education setting and have technological expertise of distance learning platforms. You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills. You will have strong analytical skills, with reference to developing innovative solutions and paying close attention to detail. You will be a credible academic leader who has experience of developing teams and working in a complex matrix structure.
