  • Full-time, fixed-term appointment for five years
  • Attractive remuneration package

Federation University is driven to make a real difference to the lives of every student and to the communities we serve, and we are proud to stand apart from our competition. We live our regional mission and take our expertise to other parts of Australia and internationally.

In 2020 we received more five-star ratings in the Good Universities Guide than any other Australian university. We are number one in Australia for first in family learners, demonstrating our focus on the student experience. With six campuses across Victoria and a growing campus in Brisbane, we have more than 24,000 students and over 1,400 fixed-term and continuing staff. Our six schools offer an array of well-designed programs and courses carefully structured to meet the demands of our students.

Within the success of the University’s integrated strategic plan ‘Transforming Lives and Enhancing Communities’, Federation is committed to making gender balance a sustainable reality and Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley, invites suitably qualified candidates to join the executive team in a newly created role, as Director, Governance, Strategy and University Secretary.

This position will provide oversight for the Council and Vice-Chancellor and President for effective development, implementation and monitoring of University strategic planning, University governance and risk.

As the University’s Secretary to Council, you will provide high level advice, collaboration, and reporting as appropriate, to the Chancellor, Chairs of Committees and Council. You will collaborate well in a team environment and work in partnership with other members of the senior executive to ensure appropriate oversight, leadership and reporting internally and externally.

This executive position will also see you lead and nurture the legal function of the University, to support our strategic direction.

The successful candidate will have experience in executive leadership within a large public or private sector organisation, with a specific focus on strategy, corporate governance, planning, performance and accountability and demonstrated conceptual, analytical and research skills, including a demonstrated ability to provide clear and accurate legal advice. You will share the vision of the University with your highly developed interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including acumen, discretion, sound judgement and the ability to maintain confidentiality at the highest level.
