About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Urbanism to take responsibility for unit of study coordination, lecturing, and tutorial classes in the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

In this role, you will:

• teach in the urban and regional planning, and urban design units of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments, as well as the School’s postgraduate programs in Urbanism, Urban and Regional Planning, and Urban Design. Teaching responsibilities will include the coordination and delivery in whole or part of selected core and elective units of study
• supervise high-quality PhD candidates, through to timely completions
• build research collaborations within the School, the university and beyond, publish in high quality international outlets, and apply for research funding to develop your research area.

• a PhD in an academic field relevant to urban planning or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to your discipline
• a developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice in urbanism, urban planning and urban design
• developing experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
• a demonstrated ability to design, coordinate, teach and evaluate units of study in Urbanism, Urban and Regional Planning, and Urban Design, in lecture, tutorial and studio situations
• a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
• demonstrated capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a range of media.

It is also expected that you will have expertise in two or more of the following:

• urban planning;
• urban ecology;
• environmental issues in the built environment; and
• urban design.
