Applications are invited for temporary posts of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within the UCD School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the Cognitive Neural Systems Lab of Simon Kelly to work on a project investigating the general and task-specific roles of evidence accumulation in perceptual decision making across diverse behavioural scenarios, funded under the SFI-HRB-Wellcome Research Partnership.

Models of cognitive task performance based on the idea of bounded evidence accumulation are seeing increasing use across many basic and clinical research domains. But after decades of research they now come in many flavours, most notably featuring different ways of limiting the extent of integration - either through perfect vs. leaky integration, and with constant vs. collapsing bounds. The problem is that these variants often can be made to fit behavioural data equally well, yet can lead to fundamentally different conclusions. This project will use a neurally-informed modelling approach (see O'Connell, Shadlen, Wong-Lin and Kelly 2018, TINS) to address, when and why do we accumulate with leak and/or collapse our decision bounds? In so doing, we hope to uncover core principles governing the ways in which neurocomputational decision processes are flexibly adapted to diverse task demands.

The Kelly lab is based in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in University College Dublin, Ireland, and is affiliated with the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. It has strong collaborative links to cognitive and clinical neuroscience research groups both locally and internationally. The successful candidate for any of these positions will have ample opportunities for wider collaborations and the learning of new skills.

Interested candidates should submit their CV and a brief research statement describing their background and research interests and how they align with the project and the broader interests of the Kelly lab. The position is intended to start in April 2021, with some flexibility.
