We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Garden Design based between Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Glasgow Kelvin College as part of the Agriculture, Horticulture and Engineering Science Department within the Central Faculty of SRUC.

In this role you will prepare, deliver and assess teaching modules typically in all areas of Higher Education in garden design and related subjects and will also be involved in a range of other Horticulture activities. These include the delivery of appropriate training courses as well as Adviser of Studies, other academic duties and interactions among the landscape design industry in the UK and internationally where appropriate.

Although not a prerequisite for the job, opportunities may become available in the future to pursue research in Horticulture and Landscape design, which the candidate would be expected to develop.

Scope of the role:

Teaching of Garden Design modules primarily to students in the HNC and HND Programme areas. This may include students both at the Glasgow and Edinburgh campus sites.

  • Preparation of teaching and learning materials including those required for flexible and blended (online) learning
  • Assessment and timely feedback of student material
  • Liaison and collaboration with other staff members
  • Organisation of practical skills training together with other staff
  • Organisation of site visits to relevant project sites

Qualifications and experience required:

A minimum BSc (Hons) in Landscape Architecture, Garden and Greenspace Design or related subject is essential for this post with a postgraduate teaching qualification in Higher or Further education highly desirable. Experience, and a thorough knowledge of the broader horticultural sector in Scotland and/or the UK and experience in teaching and providing student support in a higher education setting is essential. The ability to instruct and motivate students to facilitate the successful completion of their studies is essential.

A thorough knowledge of Horticultural garden /landscape design and the education and training needs of the Horticultural sector in Scotland/ UK.
