Job Details

The School of Materials Science and Engineering is looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate to join us as a Senior Research Fellow (SRF). The SRF will join a government agency funded project led by A/P Yang Zhao (https://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/zhaoyang/) to develop new methodologies and algorithms  to simulate and understand many-body quantum dynamics and phase transitions in organic photovoltaics.

The SRF will manage the project and carry out analytic and numerical calculations as required. The SRF will also be responsible to lead a team of researchers across multidisciplinary fields to ensure the success of this project. Eventually, the team is expected to develop an analytical approach to set up standardized high-throughput data collection and analysis workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough literature review and generate periodic updates
  • Develop analytical/numerical approaches to quantum phase transitions in complex many-body systems
  • Set up standardized high-throughput data collection and analysis workflows
  • Carry out data analysis of simulations to identify the quantum criticality
  • Develop and optimize new algorithms for complex quantum systems dynamics
  • Supervise junior research staff, undergraduate and graduate student projects
  • Coordinate collaborative work within multidisciplinary team and external collaborators
  • Generate periodic progress report as required by funding agency

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Materials Science/Physics/Computational science or related fields
  • A strong track record of research ability and demonstrated contribution to research (e.g. more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, state-level grant applications, patents)
  • More than 8 years relevant postdoctoral training or research work experience
  • Experience in scientific programming (C++, Fortran, Matlab, Python)
  • Experience with quantum phase transitions, critical phenomena, and non-equilibrium dynamics
  • Experience in high performance computing including parallel and grid computing preferred
  • Experience in the field of open quantum system systems preferred
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Good coordination/project management skills
  • Able to plan and execute experiments with minimal supervision
  • Able to take initiative to improve processes and troubleshoot problems
  • Able to organize well and adhere to deadlines
