Brunel University London is a world-class University based in Uxbridge, West London. As one of the departments within the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, the Department of Life Sciences undertakes high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and scientific research across the disciplines of Biosciences, Environmental Sciences, Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, and Psychology. With around 740 undergraduates and 120 postgraduates, the Division of Psychology, delivers an UG course with work placement in Psychology and Psychology and Sport (Sport, Health and Exercise), and a suite of MSc Programmes. An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Division to recruit a highly motivated academic to support the teaching innovation and development in higher education and psychology. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and experience of teaching psychology in higher education.

The post holder will also contribute to strengthening our teaching innovation in the context of the Teaching Excellence Framework exercise. The post is designed to support staff in enhancing the students’ learning experience, as well as contribute to teaching on the undergraduate programme. The post holder will be situated in the Division of Psychology; however, they will have links with the Department of Life Sciences Educational Academic Team, as well as the Brunel Academy. The post holder’s teaching will be in the area of psychology and having an in-depth knowledge of the Teaching Excellence Framework, National Student Survey and modern teaching techniques for large cohorts will be important (e.g. team-based learning). Applicants with an in-depth understanding of experience of further education, access courses, widening participation and A-level teaching would be welcome. We would warmly welcome applications from candidates with a passion for supporting students from non A-level backgrounds in their transition to University, as well as maximising all students’ success throughout the undergraduate experience. We would also encourage applicants with a strong teaching interest in qualitative methods.

The appointment to Lecturer will be subject to a two-year probationary period (with associated reduction in teaching duties) followed by a two-year development period. Subject to meeting probationary and development targets, the post holder may apply for the position at the Senior Lecturer level.
