Professors (open rank) of Social Sciences at the School of Advanced Studies, University of Tyumen (Siberia)

The School of Advanced Studies, University of Tyumen (SAS, https://sas.utmn.ru/)  is recruiting professors of Social Sciences, in particular, Sociology, Film and Media Studies and Production, Higher Education, and Psychology.

SAS is a growing interdisciplinary research center and educational institution (BA/MA) at the University of Tyumen, which opened in 2017 to serve as an international benchmark for universities across Russia. SAS operates in English and currently employs 29 full-time faculty from 17 countries, most of whom received their PhDs from universities top-ranked globally.

Research at SAS is organized around interdisciplinary team projects which replace disciplinary academic departments. BA education at SAS is modelled on a liberal arts and sciences paradigm; we are committed to values of transformative education that spans disciplines and encourages students’ independent academic work in small classes. SAS MA program in Experimental Higher Education underscores our understanding of education as a process in need of continuous reinvention.

We are interested in scholars committed to both research and teaching, who believe in the power of complex conversations across disciplinary boundaries. Jobs at SAS provide a rare chance to develop one’s research and teaching in an experimental environment and to contribute to shaping an innovative new institution.

Professors of Sociology will teach in the Sociology and Anthropology major, contribute to SAS core curriculum and offer elective courses.

Professors of Film and Media Studies and Production will teach in the Film and Media Studies major and the MA program in Digital Cultures and Media Production, as well as contribute to SAS core curriculum and offer elective courses.

Professors of Higher Education will teach in the MA program in Experimental Higher Education which underscores our understanding of education as a process in need of continuous reinvention.

Professors of Psychology will teach elective courses and contribute to SAS core curriculum. SAS is considering opening a minor and, following that, a major in Psychology, so we would like to hire a person capable of developing a vision of such programs within SAS interdisciplinary framework.
SAS faculty regular annual teaching load is 4 90-minute classes a week across 32 teaching weeks with a typical class size of less than 20 students.

SAS professors are also expected to supervise 3rd and 4th year students’ research projects.

SAS offers either one-year or three-year renewable faculty appointments starting August 2021, pays competitive salaries, provides health insurance and research allowance. Suitable and interested candidates might be offered an initial visiting professor appointment in the Spring 2021. Preliminary interviews will be conducted online.

Please, apply with your CV and a cover letter specifying the candidate’s desired role in SAS research and teaching environment as well as three letters of recommendation sent separately. Please, direct all materials to job.sas@utmn.ru. Review of applications will begin immediately; the positions will be open until filled.
