Applications are invited for a Part-Time Lab Manager & Research Assistant to work with the research team at the Lab of Action & Body (LAB http://manostsakiris.com/index.php/research/lab/) led by Professor Manos Tsakiris and, assist with the development of the ERC-funded INtheSELF project (http://manostsakiris.com/index.php/research/intheself/). Our lab uses behavioural, neuroimaging and psychophysiological techniques to explore the neurocognitive mechanisms interoception and especially as they relate to body-awareness and social cognition.
The Lab Manager & Research Assistant will gain experience with all aspects of the research process, which could serve as a launch pad to a PhD.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- data acquisition using online behavioural and psychophysiological techniques;
- management and analyses of datasets;
- subject recruitment and screening; and
- managing the lab and performing administrative duties to serve the research and outreaching operations of the LAB.
The position is designed for an individual with a good BSc (minimum required degree classification of 2:1) in Psychology or related discipline (e.g. neuroscience, cognitive science), an MSc degree in a cognate discipline and proven research experience in quantitative online data collection as part of psychological or neuroscience experiments.
Experience in social psychology/neuroscience is highly desirable. An ability to work independently with good judgment, organizational and time management skills is necessary. Excellent writing and oral communication skills are necessary. A high degree of familiarity with platforms such as Gorilla is required.
Key duties for the post include managing the day to day activities of the lab including running experiments, managing subject payment systems and databases, preparing experimental materials, preparing ethics applications, liaising with schools, families and other partners, and contributing to the overall efficient running of the LAB’s operations..
The position is highly suitable for applicants who wish to obtain substantial research experience before commencing a PhD in Psychology/Cognitive Neuroscience.
The preferred start date is end of December 2020 or as soon as can be arranged for a fixed term of 6 months (end 30th June 2021), and it can be subject to extension.
