Junior Professorship (W1) in Haptic Clouds
Technische Universität Dresden as a University of Excellence is one of the leading universities in Germany, and is ranked among the 100 most innovative universities worldwide. Its distinguishing feature is a strong focus on research as well as its diversified offer of 129 courses of study in Engineering Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Medicine. It pursues a long-term overall development programme aimed at making TU Dresden an international top university.
At the Faculty of Computer Science, the Institute of Systems Architecture, for the Cluster of Excellence “Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop” (CeTI), invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (W1) in Haptic Clouds
to be filled at the earliest possible date. The junior professor will be appointed initially for four years. Following a positive interim evaluation, the contract will be extended to a total of six years.
You will process basic research objectives in the area of the so-called “Haptic Clouds”, in particular infrastructures such as Edge Clouds, Fog Computing or Cloud Computing with high-performance requirements enabling a haptic feedback in human-machine and human-robotic interfaces. Provision and application of Haptic Clouds has two aspects. On the one hand, the algorithms running on a haptic cloud have to be adapted to inhomogeneous and distributed resources. Performance, low latency, and other resource requirements of haptic feedback have to be met. On the other hand, the infrastructures of a haptic cloud have to be managed in an automated way including the allocation of shared resources and communication paths.
We place special emphasis on your active participation in the Excellence Cluster, in particular in the areas “Internet-of-Skills” and the underlying infrastructures of Haptic Clouds. We expect you to collaborate closely with the other institutes at the Faculty of Computer Science, the Institute of Communication Technology at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Chair of Industrial Design Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering as well as the professorships of the Faculty of Psychology in CeTI. A collaboration with the Competence Center ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig is possible https://www.scads.de. You will be required to perform teaching tasks, in particular in the area of reliable distributed systems. Your duties include active participation in academic self-administration.
To this end, software engineering experience, international publications as well as experience in the independent acquisition and management of research projects in the above-mentioned research fields are required. We are particularly seeking persons who are passionate about working with graduate students and training the next generation of researchers.
Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
