The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto is currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship-trained, academic radiologist who must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. This position in the Division of Interventional Radiology is a “partnership-track” position. We seek a radiologist to support our mission of outstanding patient care delivered in a positive and constructive work environment. The successful candidate will be committed to the highest standards of quality in clinical operations, teaching and research and will hold certification in diagnostic radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021, or as mutually agreed.

St. Michael’s Hospital, a member of Unity Health Toronto, is a busy, 600-bed tertiary care and major trauma centre and one of four principal teaching hospitals within the Department of Medical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The hospital is recognized for its excellence in post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate Medical Imaging education. There are 3 dedicated interventional suites (one is a biplane suite used by Interventional Neuroradiology), 9 ultrasound units, 3 multi-detector CT scanners (1 dual-energy volume CT scanner), and 4 MRI scanners (1 designated research magnet). Currently we are renovating the VIR and INR area, with an aim of having 3 dedicated VIR and 2 INR. Procurement is currently underway to add a PET CT scanner to the department in 2021-2022.

The successful candidate must be a team player, able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and hospital management. S/he must be able to function well in a high acuity and high volume environment. S/he must provide the highest quality of patient and family centered care while maintaining a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement, research and teaching.

Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The Interventional Radiology division provides crucial support to all hospital inpatient and outpatient programs.  The successful candidate will participate in the Interventional Radiology on-call roster. The candidate will be expected to participate in radiology resident rounds and in the multi-disciplinary team meetings/rounds. S/he will supervise trainees at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels including up to 1-1/2 full time clinical VIR fellows each year, including fully supporting the newly approved interventional radiology residency program at the University of Toronto.

There are over 50 radiology residents from the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto who also rotate through the department. The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre that provides world-class research support and affords many opportunities for radiologists to engage in inter-departmental, collaborative translational research in Medical Imaging.

The successful candidate must have fellowship training in vascular and interventional radiology. S/he must be trained in supervision, processing and interpretation of vascular CT and MRI examinations. In addition to performing vascular and interventional procedures, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in various IR clinics, and patient ward rounds. The position will also include responsibilities to report  other x-ray, CT and MRI diagnostic exams in keeping with the candidates qualifications and as directed by the division head and/or the Radiologist-in-Chief.
