Your Opportunity:  

Recognized globally, the Department of Radiation Oncology trains the next generation of leaders, fosters a culture of innovation, knowledge exchange and translation, and contributes to the Radiation Medicine community, as well as the broader health and public policy systems. The administrative team, is responsible for facilitating and supporting the advancement of the Radiation Medicine, the delivery of care, and the training of future Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Therapists. 

As Business Manager, you will provide strategic oversight in the areas of finance, human resources and space management in support of our Department’s teaching and research goals/missions. Working in close partnership with the Department Chair, you will lead and inspire a small team of administrative staff to achieve individual and department goals through education program delivery and support of our faculty’s transformative research. Your strong financial acumen and proven ability to navigate and influence within complex organizational structures will help to advance our academic priorities and raise our national and international profile.

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and coordinating the workflow of the department: overseeing the educational programs, continuing education programs, conferences, and departmental events
  • Providing financial expertise and leadership, including recommending fiscal strategies, directing and overseeing budget preparation, forecasting, controls, analyses, and reports
  • Recruiting and managing administrative staff and assuming overall responsibility for human resources and labour relations
  • Working in collaboration with the University and hospital partners, supporting stakeholder engagement and managing communication strategies for the department
  • Overseeing information technology projects and responsible for space and facilities management 

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, accounting, or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in administrative, financial and human resource management in a university or hospital environment
  • Proven management and leadership skills in a preferably in a unionized environment; experience in team building and managing change 
  • Experience with the University’s budget model, policies, procedures, guidelines, systems and structure is highly desirable 
  • Must be able to interpret complex policies and procedures related to financial and space issues 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources policies and procedures and routine collective agreement interpretation   
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior administrators, responding to and handling matters of a complex and sensitive nature 
  • Experience planning and executing conferences and events
  • Strong proficiency with personal computers and related software, including advanced proficiency in MS Word and Excel  
  • Knowledge of the University’s Administrative Management System (AMS), including the Financial Information System (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS), or a similar large enterprise system
  • Client-services oriented with demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills 
  • Strong decision-making skills; superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, students, senior administration and external constituents
