TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE, Biological Engineering-Synthetic Biology Center (SBC) (multiple positions), to join the lab of Professor Ron Weiss. Will aid in the development and production of DNA-based genetic circuits and validate their sequences and properties; aid in the development, production, and titer measurements of lentivirus gene delivery vectors and their transduction into target cells and the management and characterization of cells undergoing the reprogramming process, cells that have achieved pluripotency, or the characterization of differentiating cells; and use mature organoids for drug testing and toxicology studies or assist with developing and testing gene circuits that can monitor miRNA and protein expression profiles to assess the responses of cellular pathways to drug compounds. Laboratory work includes mammalian and/or organoid cell culture, molecular cloning (genetic engineering), transfection, lentivirus production, lentivirus transduction, immunofluorescent staining, flow cytometry, microscopic image acquisition, ELISA, Droplet Digital PCR, and data preparation; preparing progress reports; and providing careful documentation of experimental procedures.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.S./B.A. (master’s preferred) in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or other relevant scientific field; at least two year’s laboratory technician experience; experience with basic aseptic molecular and cellular biology and mammalian cell culture technique and basic chemistry/biology lab techniques; laboratory experience with basic experimental procedures; excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; self-motivation; detail-orientation; and ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow complex instructions, plan and troubleshoot experiments, multitask, and carefully document work in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment. Experience with DNA and RNA handling/transfection, lentivirus production and transduction, stem cell culture, and organoid culture desirable; as is knowledge of imaging technique, including flow cytometry and confocal and immunofluorescence imaging. Some nights and weekend work will be required.
