Senior Lecturer specialised in cognition

Lund University, Faculty of Social Sciences , The Department of Psychology

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and more than 8 000 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University is one of the leading education and research institutions in Sweden and operates both in Lund and Helsingborg.

The Department of Psychology combines education with research and has in recent years been very successful in the competition for external research funds. Central research areas include occupational and organizational psychology, clinical psychology, cognition, neuropsychology, personality and social psychology and developmental psychology.

Many of our courses are developed in connection with research projects, and students are given the opportunity to gain access to current research findings from teachers who themselves are active researchers in their respective areas. Our education environment has long been highly internationalized.

The position will entail teaching, supervision and assessment at Bachelor’s and Master’s level on freestanding courses and international Master’s programmes, as well as on other courses at the department, including PhD education.

The teaching may also include assignments such as course management, course development and course administration. The teaching is conducted in Swedish and English. The duties also include research and dissemination of research findings, and participation in the department’s work to generate external research funding, as well as promotion and development of the department’s infrastructure, particularly with regard to experimental methods. The department is looking to enhance and broaden existing methodological skills, particularly with regard to eye-tracking technologies in connection with basic and applied research into cognition, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology and neuropsychology.

Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are individuals who have been awarded a PhD in psychology or equivalent, have demonstrated teaching expertise, have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning or have acquired the equivalent knowledge. If there are special circumstances, some of the training in higher education teaching and learning may be conducted during the first year of employment. For appointment, the individual must have a documented ability to teach in Swedish/other Scandinavian languages and English.

Assessment criteria
When shortlisting qualified applicants, equal importance will be placed upon research and teaching expertise in the field of cognitive psychology. The position requires documented research experience of central cognitive functions such as learning, memory, cognitive control, attention and problem-solving. Documented skills in applying eye-tracking technologies to cognitive studies are highly desirable.

When assessing research expertise, particular weight will be accorded to research activity (scope/academic quality), the ability to initiate and independently conduct research, the ability to obtain funding for research in national competition, and a documented capacity for interaction, both within the scientific community and wider society.

Documented experience of collaboration with researchers in different disciplines – with respect to both basic and applied research – is particularly desirable.

The applicant’s teaching expertise is to be well documented. When assessing the applicant’s teaching expertise, emphasis will be placed on the quality of teaching. Its scope, breadth and depth will also to be taken into account. In addition, the applicant’s documented ability to plan, initiate, manage and develop teaching, as well as the ability to link the teaching to research, will be considered. Experience of supervising papers and teaching experimental methodology will be taken into consideration.

Administrative skills will be considered, which can be demonstrated through management tasks, the ability to plan, develop and manage courses and the ability to collaborate in both teaching and research.

Personal traits such as thoroughness, ability to take personal responsibility and ability to cooperate are considered important in order to perform the duties well. Significant personal circumstances (e.g. parental leave) should be reported among the applicant’s qualifications and experiences.

The application is to be submitted electronically to the Lund University e-recruitment portal. The application can be written in Swedish or English, and should be designed according to "Instructions forapplications for academic posts and promotion" at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Applicants shall indicate in their list of publication the maximum 10 publications to which they principally wish to refer. These publications shall be attached to the application.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset. We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
