Duties and responsibilities

  • Associate professor principal duties include high-level research and development activities and teaching at all levels of higher education. 
  • Associate professor supervises students and other academic staff involved in those activities.
  • Using modern teaching methods and educational technology.
  • Securing the resources necessary for research activities, leading project implementation teams and being responsible for the effectiveness of research and developmental activities.
  • Internationally recognised research in five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of two doctoral theses.
  • Participation in the activities of Estonian and international research organisations and expert committees.
  • Popularisation of the specialisation.

Required qualifications

  • PhD or an equivalent qualification. See also requirements for teaching and research staff.

Required experience

  • Ability to organise teaching and teach at all levels of higher education.
  • Previous teaching experience at every level of higher education, incl. effective supervising of master’s and doctoral students.
  • Ability to direct a research theme and supervise academic staff involved. 
  • Internationally recognised professional research, the volume of which is equivalent to that of at least three doctoral theses, in the last five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of two doctoral theses.
  • Success in applying for research funding and performing contracts of research activities in the last five years.
  • In additional to scientific publishing, experience and abilities to carry out fieldwork and practical conservation advocacy on different groups of wetland biota, in order to enable integrated conservation and management projects. 
  • Experience in the popularisation of the specialisation.
  • Experience in team or project management.
  • Participation in the work of the international community in the specialisation. 

Required language skills
Estonian and English.
