Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Animal Biology
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) in Animal Biology with particular interest in (but not limited to) vertebrate biology, evolution and comparative/quantitative methods in biology. This is a full-time, 5-year academic post in the School of Biology & Environmental Science at University College Dublin. The School offers a diverse portfolio of programmes, including BSc degrees in Cell & Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Zoology and Environmental Biology, as well as co-teaching a BSc degree in Genetics. At postgraduate level the School delivers a number of degrees, including an MSc degree in Biological & Biomolecular Science (by negotiated learning), which incorporates specialisation streams in cell biology and genetics, as well as an MSc degree in Plant Biology & Biotechnology. The School also contributes to a joint BSc degree in Biological Sciences with South China Agricultural University (SCAU) in Guangzhou in China.
The appointee will spend one trimester (up to 16 weeks) per academic year teaching, delivering modules, assessing students and engaging with local staff at South China Agricultural University (SCAU) in Guangzhou, China, as a member of a team delivering several degree programmes in UCD's Guangzhou Dublin International College of Life Science and Technology (GDIC). The appointee may also do some teaching in their area in UCD's Belfield campus. Undergraduate teaching will be in the areas of animal biology, quantitative skills for biologists, origin and diversity of life and the broad area of zoology. The appointee will also develop their own research programme that will be largely based in Ireland but may include activities overseas (including China). The candidate should complement and engage with current academic staff and research programmes within the School and wider research community.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has demonstrated aptitude, commitment and passion for teaching, with research expertise in animal biology. Candidates must have a PhD in an appropriate discipline, a demonstrated capacity to carry out research, excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and teaching experience.

95 Lecturer / Assistant Professor (above the bar) 2010 salary scale: €54,848 - €86,235 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guideline.
