The Energy Research Institute @ NTU invites applicants for the position of Research Fellow

Job Description:

  • Core expertise: Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) Functions & Grid Enterprise Integration
  • Design and develop the core functions/modules of the distribution grid management platforms (e.g., DMS, GIS, OMS), such as IVVC, FDIR, probabilistic power flow analysis, distribution OPF, voltage profile mgmt, power factor correction, volt-var optimization, microgrid/feeder power flow controls & generation-load balancing
  • Validate & improvise the performance of the abovementioned modules by integrating them into an advanced grid enterprise application layer specifically designed to handle the large penetration of DERs
  • Research into state-of-the-art solutions, and generate innovative ideas that can be implemented for distribution grid management
  • Design & develop modules/tools for the key Advanced DMS (ADMS) functions (e.g., power flow, volt-var optimization, fault detection, isolation, restoration, robust load balancing, grid control and outage management for power system self-healing & resiliency)
  • Experience in Distribution Management System (DMS), Geospatial Information System (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS), SCADA, Power System Network Protection & Distribution System Automation

Job Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Specialized in Power Systems/Distribution Networks/Automation & Control
  • Min. Years of Experience : 2 to 5 years
  • Good knowledge of Distributed Energy Resource Management System & Grid ancillary services concepts (e.g., voltage/power management, fast demand response, contingency reserve, peak demand management, regulation service (voltage/frequency), battery storage energy arbitrage, and electric vehicles (V2G/G2V))
  • Experience in Grid enterprise integration, Common Information Model (CIM), and data model standards
  • Proficiency in using power system modeling and simulation software for analyzing the power system stability, reliability, power flow, short circuit, flicker, voltage regulation, power factor, losses and electromagnetic transients
  • Knowledge of utility grid communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP 3.0, IEC 61850 and IEC 104
