Senior Research Associate/Research Associate - OR-MASTER
Salary:  £28,331 to £32,817 or £34,804 to £40,322

Mathematical Models and Algorithms for Allocating Scarce Airport Resources (OR-MASTER) is a Programme Grant funded by the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, UK (EPSRC) involving Lancaster University and University of Leicester. At Lancaster, OR-MASTER will be undertaken by the Centre for Transport and Logistics (CENTRAL).   Professor Konstantinos G. Zografos at Lancaster University is the Principal Investigator and overall Programme Director.  Professors Kevin Glazebrook (Lancaster) and Edmund Burke (University of Leicester) are the two Programme Co-Investigators.  

OR-MASTER will develop new mathematical models and algorithms for solving complex, large-scale airport resource allocation problems. To achieve our objectives we seek to recruit world-leading post-doctoral researchers (Research Associates) with ambition, potential and determination. 

The main activities will include:-

  • Innovative research investigation under the OR-MASTER and other projects undertaken by the Centre for Transport and Logistics (CENTRAL)
  • Collaborative activities with CENTRAL affiliated organisations and participation in project events (e.g. stakeholder workshops)
  • Preparation of research papers
  • Preparation and presentation of conference papers
  • Contribution to the development of impact cases
  • Other duties associated with the CENTRAL activities and projects, including workshops/seminars/conferences/advisory board and executive board meetings/engagement with project stakeholders.

You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which at this time is for 24 months, with a possible extension to 36 months, subject to funding body approval.

Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Digital Transition Officer within the Transitions team.  

You will contribute to the digital development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services.  Support will be focused on improving the transition to University and the student experience of specific Widening Participation (WP) groups including disabled students and mature students.  You will need experience of developing on-line training or support, and of developing and designing attractive web content.  You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop effective schemes and services.You should have experience of collection and analysing data, as well as excellent organisation and problem solving skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.  

You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services. You should have experience of preparing written reports and the ability to present evaluation data in a meaningful way for a variety of audiences. Knowledge and understanding of disability would be an advantage.  Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.
