The role & key responsibilities

The Manager, Online Learning is responsible for managing contributing and promoting the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies, programs, projects and services to assure and improve institutional and individual capability in relation to online teaching and learning. This includes the design, development, implementation and evaluation of technology enhanced learning, teaching, and curricula. S/He will be expected to remain conversant with, utilize, and contribute to the scholarships and practice of digitally enhanced delivery making the best use of RMIT’s available virtual and built environments. This work requires effective thought leadership and close collaboration with academic staff to design, develop, and implement student learning experiences for multi-location and multi-channel delivery, to achieve the academic priorities set by the Centers and Departments.

Key selection criteria

Master’s Degree in curriculum development and innovation, instructional design, learning technologies, or a related field.

Minimum Six Years of learning design, university teaching (preferably with significant on-line teaching experience), or other relevant experience in a university or other post-compulsory educational institution.

Well-developed interpersonal skills, including leadership, negotiation, liaison, cross-cultural communication, and both working within and leading work teams including capabilities to be innovative in achieving stated objectives.

Extensive experience in digitally enhanced learning practices in higher education including curriculum design, various modes of delivery, and assessment including knowledge of Learning Management Systems and Learning Design. Significant demonstrated knowledge of efficient and sustainable development of blended learning experiences using ‘multi-channel’ approaches and learning design models.

Experience in leading learning and teaching projects to achieve and disseminate deliverable outcomes with proven experience at leading small teams/project teams with the ability to provide thought leadership to foster high levels of enthusiasm and commitment amongst teaching staff for implementing technology-enhanced learning.

Experience in a role providing advisory and learning support to administrators, managers and teaching staff: including introducing the purposeful integration of educational technologies and demonstrated ability to influence and change attitudes and behaviour in addition to significant demonstrated ability to lead academic teams through the process of designing blended and online learning activities and materials with the ability to ensure that academic staff development efforts reflect the use of current theories and principles of technology integration and learning design.

A proven track record of delivering quality service, being highly self-motivated and proactive including excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, a high standard of interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate with a broad range of people.
