At TU Dresden, Faculty of Biology the Chair of Molecular Biotechnology at the Institute of Microbiology offers, subject to resources being available, a position as

Research Associate
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting from February 01, 2021. The position is limited for 36 months and entails 65% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

The position is part of DFG funded research project, aiming for the exploitation of novel biocatalysts for the biosynthesis of non-canonical deoxyribonucleotides.

Tasks: characterization and engineering of enzymatic biocatalysts, particularly recombinant production (in E. coli) and purification of enzymes in lab scale; enzymatic catalysis in aqueous systems; analysis of low-molecular weight chemical compounds via e.g. photometry, liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry; independent project scheduling and organization; documentation as well as written and verbal communication.

Requirements: high ranked university degree (M.Sc., Dipl.) in Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry or comparable courses; distinct research interest and strong self-motivation; basic theoretical and practical expertise in microbial biotechnology, biochemistry and chemical analytics; deeper expertise in molecular biotechnology especially enzyme technology; fluent English in spoken and written form; ability to work creative and independently; commitment to the project and a disposition for taking responsibility; commitment to the rules of good scientific practice. Experience in biocatalysis and/or enzyme engineering is beneficial.
