Research Assistant 1, HSS
The Yale Scleroderma Program, a newly established clinical and translational research program, is seeking a detail-oriented, full-time clinical research assistant who enjoys working with patients and data. Responsibilities for this position will include but not be limited to:
Work with OnCore, the university’s Clinical Trials Management System, to develop and maintain study participant and biospecimen tracking.
Build study specifications for electronic case report forms (eCRFs) in REDCap for clinical data collection.
Organize, enter, and monitor information for effective data management in OnCore, REDCap and other electronic data capture systems for clinical trials.
Register and manage data from study participants throughout the lifecycle of clinical studies.
Collect, process, track/store and ship biospecimens.
Work in collaboration with researchers to assist in designing the initial project scope, requirements, and measurable outcomes for patient-focused research.
Edit research protocols, informed consent forms and budgets and work with the Office of Sponsored Projects, Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, and Yale’s Institutional Review Board to receive approval for clinical studies.
Consent study participants and coordinate research study visits for sample and data collection.
Develop end-user documentation and training for investigators, coordinators, and other data managers.
Help define tracking reports to monitor data quality.
- Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
- Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
- Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.
- Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
- Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.
- Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.
Required Education and Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to work independently. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Proven ability working as part of a team. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Proven ability developing and maintaining biospecimen tracking. Proven ability to collect, process, track, store and ship biospecimens. Ability to manage data from study participants. Proven ability handling consent forms.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Excellent patient-relations skills and demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology. Prior experience with Phlebotomy.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Previous experience in a scientific research setting. Previous experiences processing research biospecimens. Proficiency with Epic EMR. Previous patient care work experiences with differently abled populations.
