POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATEMIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), to work in the area of low-carbon energy systems with a focus on the role of energy storage in the power grid. Will join Dr. Apurba Sakti and Dr. Audun Botterud on working towards developing improved analytics for low-carbon energy systems, with a focus on grid-scale energy storage solutions in future electricity markets. This includes model formulations that can answer key questions about the performance and viability of different energy storage technologies, electricity market design, and energy-environmental policy that affect the ongoing energy transition across the globe. The project aims to investigate the evolving roles and business cases of energy storage systems in the U.S. and beyond, with a particular focus on long-duration storage.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. (or an about to be completed Ph.D.)  in a subject pertinent to the research area, e.g., systems engineering, engineering and public policy, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, or operations research; ability to regularly present research at international conferences, sponsor meetings, and center workshops and to publish papers in leading academic journals in the research field; excellent communication skills, including fluency in spoken and written English; and the ability to conduct independent research and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Expertise in energy storage and electricity markets and modeling and optimization would be ideal, as would developing decision support tools in programming languages such as Python.
