CATALYST (Business Development), Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT), to provide faculty-centric research administration support for a variety of risk-managed agreements, including industrial, nonprofit, and international sponsors, partners, and collaborators. Responsibilities include facilitating and acting as a resource for faculty who seek to secure agreements for sponsored research, education, or capacity building from non-federal sponsors; becoming familiar with MIT research and IP policies/practices, faculty IP portfolios, and faculty research needs; identifying and cultivating engagement opportunities between faculty and potential sponsors and driving these deals to closure; leading negotiation and closure of sponsored research agreements with the Strategic Transactions Team; coordinating with MIT’s Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) on cultivating and responding to specific industry inquiries/interest related to sponsoring MIT research; providing support as agreements transition from negotiation to launch and execution; and handling special assignments as requested. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in science or engineering; at least seven years’ relevant resource development or business development experience in an industry/university/nonprofit setting; experience negotiating sponsored research, collaboration, and other agreements; and ability to grasp complex issues and identify solution paths, communicate and negotiate with a diverse group of stakeholders, and work closely with research administration and technology transfer professionals.  Seek someone who exhibits thoughtful judgment and an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and decision making, can work as part of a team, and is sensitive to the needs of multiple constituencies in a complex and demanding academic environment.  Knowledge of academic research principles and research integrity, and intellectual property policy a plus.  Job #17973-11
