Job description
The King's British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence pursues research that aims to advance the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The Centre has approximately 100 core and affiliated PIs who cover a very wide range of basic, applied and clinical expertise. It provides a dynamic environment for inter-disciplinary research and training including excellent links to the clinical services of King's Health Partners. Following the 2018 renewal of the BHF Centre, a major focus of research activities is the topic of heart failure where there are multiple internationally leading programmes of work.

This position will sit within the BHF Centre Theme on Signatures and Trajectories of Heart Failure and play a key role in the activities of the theme. We seek to appoint an outstanding and ambitious data scientist with 3-5 years' postdoctoral experience who is at the stage of transition to independence. The postholder will develop and lead a programme of work that is highly aligned with the core aims of this theme, i.e. the stratification of patients with heart failure, the prediction of disease trajectories, or the responses to treatment. The integration and analysis of multimodality datasets, including electronic patient records, towards these aims is a key objective. The award covers personal salary and research expenses, as well as access to PhD Studentships and other BHF Centre internal funding schemes. The expectation is that the postholder will develop a strong external Intermediate Fellowship application and/or become competitive for Faculty positions.

The successful candidate will have a track record of outstanding first or lead author 3*/4* publications and demonstrable ability to drive independent research. Previous experience in health informatics, biostatistics, analysis of multiple large data sets, machine and deep learning is essential. As part of the King's BHF Centre, the successful candidate will be able to interact with data scientists within the KCL AI Centre and the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics, as well as a wide range of other clinical and basic scientists.

This role is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 3 years.
