The Philosophical Faculty I at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg invites applications for the following appointment at the level of full professor in its History Department:
W3-Professorship for Modern History (d-m-f)
The responsibilities of the position include teaching the history of the „long 19th century“ (from the French Revolution to World War I) in breadth. In research we expect a special emphasis in the history of at least one country other than Germany besides an emphasis in German history as well. Applicants should be distinguished members of the discipline’s national as well as international community.
We expect the future professor to get involved with the „Historical Data Centre for Saxony-Anhalt“, to participate in one of the university’s main research programmes, and to engage in cooperative research with colleagues from the department and the faculty. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to all teaching programmes of the History Department. Applicants are supposed to give university courses in German. Further duties are described in the state law for higher education of Saxony-Anhalt (§ 34 HSG-LSA).
The prerequisites are defined by § 35 HSG-LSA and especially include a habilitation or a record of research that is equivalent to the German habilitation as well as an aptitude for academic teaching.
The Martin Luther University Halle Wittenberg strives to increase the number of women in academic research and therefore emphatically encourages qualified women to apply. Moreover, the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg offers excellent facilities for its staff members to combine academic work and family obligations.
Applications from handicapped persons are preferentially considered, given equal qualifications and competence.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae, copies of transcripts and certificates, an overview of one’s scientific career, a list of publications (stressing the ten most important publications), an overview of one’s teaching experience, evidence of successful acquisition of third-party funding, and a completed summary form (available under: www.philfak1.uni-halle.de/berufungsverfahren/). Applications, indicating both a current home address and, if available, an office address, should be sent until December 16th, 2020 to
