The University of Chicago's Animal Resources Center is searching for a full-time faculty veterinarian at any rank who would be appointed as faculty in the Department of Surgery. The appointee will contribute to animal care, education, and scholarship, and join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago.  A tradition of excellence in animal care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic veterinarian.

The appointee will join a strong veterinary and Animal Resources Center team to share in the care of more than a dozen different species housed in the 138,000 square feet of centrally managed research facilities. The veterinarians maintain a close, cooperative partnership with University research teams. The appointee will continue in this tradition, working collegially with the research teams to advance animal care and the scientific objectives of the studies.  Primary clinical responsibilities for this position include providing leadership, oversight and management of the large animal surgical clinic, clinical care of the USDA covered species, and providing oversight to other aspects of the large animal research program. The appointee will be involved in the Animal Resources Center training programs, including the ACLAM veterinary residency program. The appointee will work closely with the regulatory offices (IACUC, IBC) at the institution to assure excellent animal care, and will be involved in individualized scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. We especially welcome applicants with experience in managing large animal surgical models.  

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a DVM or VMD from an AVMA accredited institution, 2) hold or be eligible for veterinary licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be ACLAM Board certified.
