The Project Interior Designer in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) is responsible for planning, designing and coordinating office and building furniture/finish/small to mid- scale renovations. Work with students, staff and faculty to create efficient, attractive, functional and sustainable spaces to meet end user requirements. Professionally work on a team with product manufacturers, architects, operations and tradesmen through feasibility, design, construction and punch list phases of projects. Effectively manage budget and tight project schedules. Integrate sustainability into designs and selections. Maintain current AutoCAD databases and finishes databases. Organize sustainability projects and efforts in SEAS. Work and design within city, state and EHRS codes and requirements.

Job Description

The Project Interior Designer will design small to mid-size higher education projects within SEAS spaces including site surveys, drawing floor plans, elevations and reflected ceiling plans on AutoCAD, specify and spec furniture and finish selections, initiate and award product bids, oversee furniture and FF&E installations, coordinate with operations. Select furniture, finishes, and fixtures on small projects for offices, conference rooms, student spaces, restrooms and public areas. Meet directly with end users and work with them to form designs to meet their needs. Coordinate with end users through installation. Organize and develop sustainability initiatives, efforts and proposed projects/events. Maintain current AutoCAD building plans in coordination with FRES and finishes databases. Organize, expand and modify the furniture and finishes library, focusing on sustainability and durability. Coordinate internal moves with SEAS design team. This includes meeting with end users, space surveying and drafting in CAD, working directly with end users to confirm furniture and trade ticket scope, obtaining quotes for new furniture and moves, and coordinating the move effort. 


Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field with a minimum of three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. AutoCAD and Microsoft Office proficient. Experience working within budgets, on tight project schedules, and knowledge of ADA and city codes.
