Job Description Summary

As a Project Manager / Senior Project Manager, you will join a dynamic and growing team responsible for ClinEpiDB.org – a global initiative that seeks to make diverse datasets accessible to epidemiologists, laboratory researchers, field biologists, clinicians and policy-makers by facilitating data integration, exploration and mining.

Job Description

The successful applicant will work closely with data providers and other end users to make certain that requirements are accurately identified and specified, and ensure that all commitments are achievable, delivered in a timely manner, and reported appropriately. They will also work with other senior team members to define priorities, allocate resources and foster communication within a 40+ member team including biologists, curators, data-loaders, ontologists, user-interface specialists, software developers, outreach staff, and others.  

Excellent interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to clearly communicate with persons from diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds: epidemiologists, clinicians, programmers, biomedical researchers, etc, working in academics, industry, medicine and public health, at various sites around the world.  A solid understanding of data science concepts is required, including experience with large-scale epidemiological, genomic, or other biomedical datasets.  Demonstrated evidence of strong writing skills is required.  Experience in managing or coordinating large scientific projects spanning broad geographic regions with diverse personnel is a plus … and required for appointment at a Senior level, which would include responsibility for management of other team members, and coordination of ClinEpiDB with the affiliated VEuPathDB.org project.  

This position will require some international travel; support for workshops, webinars, and meetings; and participation in scientific writing and reporting.  Opportunities may also be available to participate in collaborative research, depending on the expertise and interests.

Qualifications:

Junior: Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field, with a minimum of three years experience, preferably involving infectious disease epidemiology, maternal and child health and/or biostatistics. Experience with data analysis applications (R, SAS, STATA) and effective data management skills (including file processing, an understanding of clean data principles and basic univariate measures) is a must. Demonstrated communication and writing skills are required.  Experience in coordinating or managing team science projects and staff is a plus.  Familiarity with relational databases and experience in communicating with software designers is a plus.

Senior: Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field, with a minimum of five years of work experience, preferably involving infectious disease epidemiology, maternal and child health and/or biostatistics. Minimum three years experience coordinating or managing team science projects and staff. Experience with data analysis applications (R, SAS, STATA) and effective data management skills (including file processing, an understanding of clean data principles and basic univariate measures) is a must. Demonstrated communication and writing skills are required.  Familiarity with relational databases and experience in communicating with software designers is a plus.
