SOAS Board of Trustees Member
SOAS Board of Trustees
SOAS University of London is the leading Higher Education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East.
SOAS is uniquely placed to inform and shape current thinking about the economic, political, cultural, security and religious challenges of our world. Our programmes are taught by respected academics engaged in fieldwork and research which influences government policy and the lives of individuals across the globe. SOAS scholars grapple with the pressing issues confronting two-thirds of humankind today: democracy, development, economy, finance, public and corporate policy, human rights, migration, identity, legal systems, poverty, religion, and social change. This is an exciting time for SOAS as we work to retain and enhance our student experience and global impact in an increasingly competitive sector.
We are seeking expressions of interest for the appointment of members of the SOAS Board of Trustees. These would be held in a voluntary capacity. As a Trustee, your commitment, expertise and passion will provide you with an opportunity to have impact on SOAS’ strategic direction, sustainability and development and have impact on our future vision and strategy.
We are looking for two candidates.
The first will have had leadership and management experience in the Higher Education sector with high level responsibility for financial planning and management, estates and corporate services more generally. Having served as a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Provost, Chief Operating Officer or Director of Finance would be seen as particularly relevant to the appointment.
The second should be a qualified accountant and be willing to serve on the Board’s Audit Committee. Having worked in an accountancy firm or as an accountant in the private, public or charitable sector is expected along with experience of the preparation of final accounts and participation in the audit process.
Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of good corporate governance.
In the wake of the current Covid 19 pandemic, this is a critical time for the SOAS and the sector more widely. This position would suit an individual who is ambitious to support the continued development of the School and to help to maximise the transformation that is already underway.
The ideal candidates will also have a strong personal commitment to SOAS’ values, aims and objectives, as well as to the regions and subjects covered by our teaching and research.
We are working to achieve a diverse and representative workforce at all levels within SOAS University of London and have a Board that reflects the SOAS community. Black and Minority Ethnic groups are actively encouraged to apply for this vacancy.
