At TU Dresden, Faculty of Computer Science, Institute of Theoretical Computer Science, the Chair for Knowledge-Based Systems invites applications for a

Research Associate

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

within the competence centre “Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence“ (ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig)  starting as soon as possible. The position is fixed-term until 31.12.2022. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - Wis-sZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.

Tasks: As a member of the team in sub-project „Knowledge-Aware Computing“ of the competence centre, you will be researching new methods for representation and processing human knowledge in intelligent systems. Together with other researchers, you will be working on one or several of the following tasks:

  • Development of new approaches for integrating several AI methods (such as machine learning, planning, and optimisation) into knowledge-based systems
  • Design of architectures and algorithms for intelligent, knowledge-based systems
  • Implementation of prototypes and their empirical evaluation

The position is focussed on foundational research. Publication and presentation of research results at international venues are important parts of the work.

Requirements: very good university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in computer science or a related area, and if applicable significant research contributions to one of the mentioned topics. We are looking for motivated and talented staff members with specific background knowledge or prior experience in the following topics:

  • Symbolic methods of artificial intelligence in areas such as knowledge representation, logic programming, or logical reasoning
  • and applications of further AI methods, such as ML, NLP, or optimisation
  • Design and implementation of related systems in common programming languages

Candidates should be independent in organising their work, keen on working with teams of experts across other projects, and fluent in English, oral and written.
