The University wishes to appoint an outstanding leader to the position of University Secretary.
The primary purpose of this role is to support University Council in the effective delivery of the Council business and to act as a key communication conduit between the Council and the Vice-Chancellor as part of wider duties that will ensure good governance and organisational effectiveness.
The University Secretary will act as a strategic advisor to both the Chair of Council and the Vice-Chancellor. S/he will support the Council and its committees in the discharge of its duties and will provide authoritative guidance to Council on its responsibilities under University Charter, Statutes and Ordinance. The Secretary will ensure that Council receives guidance on appropriate governance, the scope of its responsibilities and means through which best practice governance and compliance can be achieved.
The position offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic individual with sound persuasion, communication and influencing skills appropriate to operating as key advisor to the Chair of Council and the Vice-Chancellor. S/he must be a strategic thinker, with the ability to span the breadth of issues dealt with by Council. S/he must have the vision and insight to support the Chair of Council in maximising the Council’s influence on strategic matters appropriate to members’ University governance role.
