In partnership with SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre we continue to invest in our capabilities to solve complex challenges to build Australia’s space industry, including the establishment of expert Professorial Chair positions to drive new frontier research for NextGen space technologies.

Based in our UniSA STEM academic unit, the SmartSat Chair: Artificial Intelligence will make a significant impact through innovative and distinguished contributions to Artificial Intelligence research aligned to the priorities of the SmartSat CRC and the space industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • prepare a comprehensive plan to develop and lead an Artificial Intelligence research program
  • uphold an exceptional contribution to the Artificial Intelligence field of research, including substantial impact through applied research outcomes relevant to the space industry
  • lead a high performing interdisciplinary research team, and conduct high quality independent and collaborative research that achieves national and international recognition
  • lead major national and international competitive funding initiatives and collective external/community and industry engagement activities

Essential Skills and Experience

  • a PhD qualification in a discipline relevant to Artificial Intelligence
  • demonstrated academic leadership including the ability to create and lead a strong interdisciplinary team
  • proven success in competitive grant acquisitions and sustained levels of diversified research income
  • demonstrated ability to collaborate with and attract industry funding
  • evidence of an ongoing and distinguished track record of high quality publications and performance consistent with leadership in Artificial Intelligence

This Level E Research Professor appointment offers a base salary of $188,886 per annum with a generous superannuation contribution of up to 17% plus professional development support, relocation support and salary sacrifice options. Special Conditions
