The Global Change Institute (GCI) supports the development of Global Change Research Networks focused on major social, economic, environmental and cultural challenges. It promotes collaboration across organisational units at The University of Queensland (UQ) and with external partners. The GCI will also support researchers to plan and design research impact pathways and to measure and collect evidence of the impact of their research.

About This Opportunity

The Innovation Broker will specialise in bringing relevant transdisciplinary research capabilities together from across UQ and beyond to help shape major research and industry partnerships to attract funding and solve global challenges.

The role will support the development of new initiatives in relevant sectors and manage ongoing relationships with key clients including, large and small businesses, government agencies, funding bodies, community partners, etc. These relationships include key collaborative research endeavours, including CRCs.

We are recruiting two Innovation Brokers to join our team to focus primarily on the following research impact themes:

  • Designing Technology for Tomorrow
  • Leading Healthy Lives
  • Transforming Societies

You will join a team of two Innovation Brokers who currently focus on the Research impact themes: Building Better Bioeconomies and Achieving Resilient Environments and Livelihoods.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have experience in influencing and bringing stakeholders together to develop major research opportunities, entrepreneurial thinking, and a demonstrated ability to provide advice at a strategic level. You will have experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and the ability to problem solve sensitive issues. You will have strong communication skills with experience with research development and an in-depth understanding of how industries relating to the impact theme you are applying for operate. You will also have a postgraduate qualification, or equivalent education or training, in a relevant discipline in conjunction with extensive experience in a complex organisation.

This is a full-time, fixed term position for three (3) years on a Senior contract (HEW level 10). A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Our Selection Process

Please note that interviews have been scheduled for the weeks commencing 30 November 2020 and 7th December 2020 via Video interview. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and asked to present (without visual aids) on a relevant topic.
