The Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) serves as Singapore’s lead scientific platform under the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme, to bring together researchers, regulators and industry to build up Singapore’s food safety science and R&D capabilities to secure Singapore’s food supply and economic value proposition. FRESH will embark on R&D and talent development activities to help enhance Singapore’s local food regulatory capabilities and allow “first-in-market” food products to be safely launched in Singapore, as well as help promote Singapore-developed food standards internationally. FRESH is part of the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme (SFS), with partner organisations being the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), A*STAR and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

FRESH invites applications for the position of Research Fellow (Laboratory Manager).

Key Responsibilities:

Includes but not limited to:

  • Oversee the operations of the FRESH laboratory at NTU including running, maintaining, providing advice and support to users of equipment and streamlining administrative processes of the facility
  • Oversee all areas of safety management to ensure compliance according to OSHE and national regulatory standards and will be responsible for the Safety Management System, inspections and audits in accordance with NTU guidelines
  • Managing lab usage
  • Purchasing consumables
  • Managing budget and tracking utilisation
  • Training/assisting users on the use of FRESH equipment
  • Facilitating preventative maintenance of FRESH equipment
  • Acting as safety liaison between FRESH and the relevant safety offices in NTU
  • Assisting FRESH staff with the execution of their research
  • The role provides time and opportunity to develop your own research interests in the field of food chemistry and analytical sciences

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline such as analytical chemistry or food science, and have at least 5 years lab management experience in an academic research setting

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
