Job Description

The Unit Head leads the Instruction and Scholarly Communications Unit at the National Medical Library to support students, faculty and staff of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at UAE University. The team provides information literacy programming for students, faculty and associated researchers as well as direct support in the use and application of academic information resources and support tools, specifically in the medical and health sciences. Responsibilities:

• Design, plan and deliver Information literacy sessions and workshops to medical students, post graduates and faculty including individuals, small groups, and classroom settings
• Create online and printed guides to promote medical information resources and point of care tool to the CMHS community
• Liaise with different medical departments within the College to promote library resources and provide search and reference support
• Participate in assessing the information needs of the CMHS community and recommending resources for the electronic and printed collection
• Support the director in providing professional development training for library staff
• Provide information, circulation and reference services to the CMHS community through the library’s information desk, chat service and by individual booking/drop-in. Evening shifts are required.
• Receive visitors and give guided tours in the library.
• Prepare statistics related to the information literacy program.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Library Director.

Minimum Qualification ​

• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent recognised by the ALA.

Preferred Qualification Preferred experience with medical libraries and information agencies.

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience

• At least 5 years’ experience in information services role at academic, research or health institution libraries, or equivalent. Preferred experience with medical libraries and information agencies.
