The postholder will develop, maintain and run bioinformatics pipelines and workflows to analyse large genetic, epigenetic, clinical and lifestyle datasets of patients affected by MND to investigate the genetic and epigenetic basis of Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS, the rarest form of MND) as well as its overlap with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (the most common form of MND). Such datasets include whole-genome sequencing, methylation arrays, SNP arrays and clinical information of over 10,000 individuals, the majority of who are MND patients. Lifestyle and RNAseq data are also available for a subset.

This post will be split between the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics and the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience both based at King’s College London. The Health Informatics group has extensive experience in the development of genomic bioinformatics tools and methods ( and Basic and Clinical Neuroscience group has extensive experience in the use of bioinformatics pipelines to investigate the genetic basis of complex diseases. The postholder will also be expected to collaborate with the members of large international collaborations such as the EU JPND funded STRENGTH and Brain-MEND consortia and Project MinE.
