HST308H1S – Aging and Health (formerly UNI309H1)

Provides an understanding of the interface between health and aging, and how to maintain wellness in a rapidly aging population. Examines theories of aging, the meaning of health in old age, myths about the health of Canada’s older people, and emerging national and international responses to aging populations.

Dates of Appointment:             1 January 2021 to 30 April 2021 (Winter term)
Salary:     $8,489.67  (Sessional Lecturer 1)
                 $8,869.25  (Sessional Lecturer 1 – Long Term)
                 $9,085.58  (Sessional Lecturer 2)
                 $9,301.90  (Sessional Lecturer 3)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications: A Master’s degree in social sciences, health science, or public health science is required; The successful candidate will have an understanding of theories of aging, population health research, public health policy as it relates to an aging population
Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. preferred, with a specialization in gerontology or geriatrics. Experience teaching undergraduates and online software/BB Collaborate an asset.

Description of Duties:  Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course such as course development; administration of the course; marking assignments and tests; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
Lectures will be live-streamed and recorded; small group exercises and other activities will occur synchronously and asynchronously. Students need access to the internet, a microphone and webcam, and the ability to use Bb Collaborate.

This position is tentative pending final course determinations and enrolments.
