Position Summary

Full-time, fixed-term available for 12 months.

Compensation Grade:

Higher Education Officer Level 5

Salary Range:

$71,596 - 79,016 pa

Reporting to the Lecturer in Psychology, College of Education, Psychology and Social Work, and working under general direction, the Research Assistant will work with the lead investigators and associated team members to contribute to the development and implementation of the deliverables for the project.

The Research Assistant (RA) will: provide research and administrative support, contribute to the development of an evaluation framework, methods and implementation, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, preparation of promotional material, conference presentations and papers and coordinating the day to day activities of the project. Some afterhours work and interstate travel may be required.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Assistant is responsible for:

  • Providing research and administrative support for the project under the direction of the project executive.
  • Participating in and contributing to the development of an evaluation framework, methods and implementation.
  • Collection, management and analysis of project data (both quantitative and qualitative) as required for reports, conferences, publications.
  • Drafting reports and communications regarding the project for an array of audiences.
  • Assisting in the development, production and distribution of promotional material and their review in conjunction with the project team.
  • Maintaining user testing and peer review databases, keeping detailed records.
  • Assisting with preparation of the projects monthly newsletter and contributing to other newsletters and materials to promote the project.
  • Supporting conference participation including identifying suitable conferences.
  • Supporting publication in academic literature, including identifying suitable journals.
  • Assisting with organisation of special events for the project such as launches and workshops.
  • Networking and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Equivalent combination of relevant experience and tertiary education and/or training in research data management and analysis and learning management systems.
  • Well-developed knowledge and skills in research methodology, evaluation, the management of large datasets as well as writing skills in the area of health care.
  • Demonstrated experience in population or public health or health research, including study design, data analysis and interpretation and report writing
  • Well-developed computer literacy including demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in techniques using Excel (including working with advanced formula and functions in excel,) NVivo, and SPSS software
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the demonstrated ability to independently prioritise tasks and work to deadlines, taking the initiative in problem solving.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team taking initiative and exercising sound judgement.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to use initiative and prioritise workload during busy periods.
  • Well-developed skills in managing peer review and user testing processes is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in working in the project field of end-of-life care in acute hospitals is desirable.
