Description:

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in Finance. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will commence July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Finance or a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related area with a Finance focus by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and deepen our existing strengths. We seek individuals with demonstrated excellence in research and excellence in teaching. Applicants must engage in research in at least one of the following areas: asset pricing, data analytics applied to financial markets, financial innovation, financial risk management. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating strong empirical or statistical skills in the fields listed.

For this position, excellence in research is evidenced primarily by the job-market paper and additional research papers or publications submitted with the application, a research statement, and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. The successful candidate for this position is expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level, and to publish articles in internationally recognized top-tier academic journals in the field of Finance. We seek individuals who have been published in or have works in progress meeting the standards of the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies and journals of similar caliber and international standing. Further evidence of research excellence is provided by indication of participation in top conferences, and presenting research at other highly ranked schools.

Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including a strong demonstrated ability to integrate both theory and practice; evidence of effective communication and presentation skills; a willingness to undertake graduate supervision; skillful use of engaging activities that will stimulate and challenge the intellectual capacity of faculty and students; and a demonstrated mastery of his or her subject area. This will be demonstrated by the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements from referees. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters. Select applicants will be invited to present their research to the Rotman School faculty and students as part of the interview process.

Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
