Course Number and Titile: GGRB03H3 S, Writing Geography

Course Description: This course aims to develop critical reading and writing skills of human geography students. Through a variety of analytical, reflexive, and descriptive writing assignments, students will practice how to draft, revise, and edit their writing on spatial concepts. Students will learn how to conduct research for literature reviews, organize materials, and produce scholarly papers. They will also learn to cultivate their writing voice by engaging in a range of writing styles and forms such as blog posts, critical commentaries, travelogues, field notes, and research briefs. The course emphasizes writing clearly, succinctly, and logically.

Class schedule: Tuesdays, 11:00am - 1:00pm

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2021 - April 30, 2021

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $8,489.67; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $8,869.25; Sessional Lecturer II - $9,085.58; Sessional Lecturer III - $9,301.90

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: PhD or ABD. Effective teacher: teaching experience is an asset. Well-organized and stimulating approach to subject. Applicants’ research area should be closely related to course material.

Description of duties: The course will be offered completely online, hence will require the instructors to perform all normal duties related to the design and teaching of a normal credit course offered in an online environment, including preparation and delivery of course content through online lectures, upload lecture modules and course content, live interactions through mediums that support video communications; development, creation, administration and marking of online assignments, tests and exams; hold online office hours. Supervising TAs assigned to courses, if needed. Support will be provided from Centre for Teaching and Learning to accommodate with the online environment if needed.
