Description

The University of Chicago is searching for a Dean of its Divinity School, one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished. This leader will be an exemplary scholar with extensive administrative experience who inspires the research ambitions of others. The successful candidate must qualify for appointment as full professor with tenure.

The Dean oversees faculty recruitment and retention and is also responsible for the budget, fund-raising, staff performance, alumni relations, capital projects, student recruitment, academic and professional ministerial degree-granting programs, and efforts to promote diversity and inclusion across the school. In these and other capacities, the Dean represents the Divinity School to Officers of the University, decanal colleagues, the Board of Trustees, the Divinity School Advisory Council, students, University alumni, the wider academic community, and diverse public constituencies nationally and internationally. As one of twelve University Deans, this individual will serve as a member of the University’s senior leadership, participating in strategic institution-wide decision-making.

The Divinity School’s robust research and education programs (BA, MA, AMRS, MDiv, and PhD) build on collaborations, interdisciplinary and otherwise, within the University, across the city, and around the world.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must qualify for appointment as full professor with tenure.
