Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist B/C will have an opportunity to work in a dynamic lab environment and interact closely with faculty members, graduate, and undergraduate students on projects that involve studying the effects of anesthetics on the nervous system and will help perform behavioral experiments using rodents. The goal of these experiments is to better understand the effects of anesthetics on the brain. Principal responsibilities will be to help design and implement behavioral experiments, stereotaxic injection of viral constructs that express chemo and opto genetic actuators as well as help perform neurophysiological recordings.
The position is contingent upon funding.
Research Specialist B-Skilled Research Specialist that works with complex systems or perform highly technical mechanical or diagnostic tests in medical or scientific laboratories. Assists the laboratory manager to perform complex laboratory maintenance tasks and other laboratory projects and experiments using rodents as assigned. The goal of these experiments is to better understand the effects of anesthetics on the brain. The principal responsibilities of the research specialist will be to help design and implement behavioral experiments and perform stereotaxic brain surgery for injection of viral constructs, opto and chemo genetic modulation of specific neuronal populations, neurophysiological recordings, and immunohistochemistry. Previous experience in working with rodents on related projects that involve similar techniques is strongly preferred.
Research Specialist C- In addition to above, the Research Assistant C will assist senior level researchers on various supervised research projects within the lab. The Research Specialist C will place orders for supplies, help maintain inventory and place lab equipment in their designated areas at the end of the day. He/she will gather data from experiments, complete data entry and analyze data in collaboration with Principal Investigators and postdoctoral researchers - with the intent of presenting research results in laboratory meetings.
Research Specialist B Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred in related field (Biology, Neuroscience, or Biophysics) 1-3 years of related experience working in a laboratory or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Research Specialist C Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree preferred in related field (Biology, Neuroscience, or Biophysics) with 3-5 years of related experience in research, clinical study, project and people management or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
